About me:

When I was younger, I used to be a passionate gamer. Now, I am a passionate translator. I have been working on video game translation projects for over 3 years, as well as projects related to online casino games, stock market trading and geopolitics.

As a kid, I used to spend thousands of hours playing (mostly) RPGs and shooters. Now that I’m an adult, I occasionally play strategy games such as Civilization, Tropico, and SimCity, but that’s about it.

For the past three years, I have been living a “digital nomad” lifestyle, meaning I get to live wherever I want, and do my work on my laptop. So, when all the work is done, I prefer to shut down my laptop and explore these exotic places I find myself in.

My approach to localizing games:

My #1 priority as a translator is to deliver high-quality content that reads naturally, and is fit for the target audience. I’ve played so many badly localized games when I was younger, that I changed my console and game language into English, because everything sounded much cooler.

The key to a good translation into Dutch is that it needs to be cool. Don’t translate everything literally. Use English words and names sparingly, but wherever necessary. Imagine yourself playing the game, and getting that notification, or reading that conversation. I immerse myself into the experience just as if I’m reading a book, translate accordingly, and finish the project in time.

Work experience:

Ongoing projects:
Regular, small updates to EA existing games and related content
Online casino games content

Occasional projects:
In-house translation for upcoming games developed by one of the three producers of game consoles, lasting two to four weeks

Previous projects:
I can’t disclose most of my previous work experience, but I translated Pokémon GO, various other (but smaller) mobile games and various AAA console/PC games

Team projects:

Draw Puzzle (a puzzle game) – proofreader
Tilted – A Tale of Refraction (a mobile game) – proofreader
